It is here. Hytale Update 5 is officially out, and it is the biggest single release the game has seen in a long time.

The pre-release cycle ran for ten parts over several weeks, and each one added something meaningful. But seeing it all come together in a full release hits differently. Controller support. The team is clear that this is the first version of the social layer, not the finished product. More features are coming around how you join friends, invite others, and connect with communities. Controller Support: A Bigger Deal Than It Sounds

The music system itself was completely overhauled to use flexible music containers, which allows far more control over how and when music plays. Nine New Emotes and Avatar Mouth Animations

Prefab 3D previews. Interactive rotate, tilt, zoom, and pan before placing. Configurable for custom server UIs too, which opens possibilities for housing menus, cosmetic browsers, and dungeon selectors.

Extrude Tool rework. Combined with the old Flood Tool. Fill mode, same material filtering, same shape filtering, adjustable extrusion strategy.

Entity Tool improvements. Full undo and redo for all actions. Scale option for NPCs. Right-click cycling between overlapping entities. Highlighted entity preview while cycling. Finer precision placement with Shift and scroll. NPCs freeze immediately on spawn and play idle animations automatically.

Fog toggle. Hide view distance fog for screenshots, cinematics, or building sessions.

New commands. /locate for finding biomes, zones, regions, and prefabs. /shrink to tighten selections around non-air blocks. /knockback for debugging. /kit iron, /kit adamantite, /kit debug for instant loadouts.

Node Editor on macOS and Linux. World generation tooling is now accessible on non-Windows platforms.

Permissions Overhaul: Server Management Got Cleaner

Chest stack sizes increased from 10 to 25. Crystal Fertilizer Bag recipe halved from 50 Crystal Shards to 25. Blood Leaf, Storm Sapling, and Azure Kelp Seed Bags no longer require a Voidheart. Sickles of Copper, Iron, and Rusty Steel are now salvageable.

Rope Blocks placed vertically can now be extended downward by placing additional Rope Blocks beneath them. Crops check for space before advancing growth stages. Opening doors now breaks intersecting soft blocks like crops and drops their items. Crouching while placing blocks now correctly places adjacent to leaves instead of overwriting them.

Bamboo, Feran, and Lost Civilization Bookshelves can now be stacked. Royal Magic Couches can be sat on. Goldenwood appears more often in Zone 4. New Gold Pipe block variants were added.

Block breaking particles and sounds were updated across a large number of block types, making destruction feedback feel more polished and varied throughout the world.


Bug Fixes: The Part That Actually Took the Most Work

The bug fix list in Update 5 is enormous. Dozens of crashes closed. Movement fixes. NPC behavior fixes. Rendering fixes. Audio fixes. Command fixes. Plugin API fixes. WorldGen V2 fixes.

  • Larger prefabs now spawn on level ground instead of floating

The invisible collision bug from old Fishing Trap hitboxes is fixed too, though existing affected blocks need to be manually cleared by punching or interacting with them. If you have had unexplained invisible walls in your world since Update 4, that is likely the cause.


What Comes Next: Updates, Chapters, and Chapter 1

The team made an important distinction in the Update 5 notes that is worth understanding.

Updates bring system improvements, tooling, and polish. They keep the game evolving between bigger moments. Chapter 1 is described as the bigger moment: new content, new mechanics, and the start of the Cursebreaker Arc lore. Chapter 1 is currently in development, and the team says more information is coming in the weeks and months ahead.
